Food FAQ

Our SupportGivers can prepare meals when they come to see customers as and when required, and can leave healthier ready meals for older people on the days they won’t be visiting. If you have any questions about nutrition for older people, or our meal preparation services, see if they’re among our Frequently Asked Questions below. If you can’t find the information you’re looking for, call us on 0303 3000 128 or email us

Will a SupportGiver do all the cooking?

Unfortunately, customers can’t rely on us for all their meals, but we do provide light assistance with preparing dishes and can help clients pick out meals for when they’re on their own.

Are SupportGivers qualified nutritionists?

SupportGivers aren’t nutritionists, but they’re happy to take you to your local doctors to create personalised meal plans, and will help older people cooking and preparing their food.

Are your meals for older people delivered by you?

Depending on the circumstances and customer preferences, we’ll either help find local services that offer meals for older people delivered to home, or we’ll help out with the meal preparation ourselves. We always prepare meals at our customers’ homes rather than delivering them, though.

Can you prepare meals for people with disabilities?

Yes. We offer meal preparation to people with disabilities, people who have recently returned from hospital, and older people in need of a little extra help.

Where can I find out more the dietary needs of an older person?

For more information on healthy eating for older people, take a look at the NHS guide on Eating Well. You may also want to ask your doctor for information on planning healthy diets for older people or ring our advice line on 0300 500 1217.

Is healthy eating for older people included as part of the standard service you offer?

Certainly, if that’s what the client wants. Our SupportGivers are happy to assist with anything from cooking to crossword puzzles. Some visits can be purely social, whereas others can involve a little more work. It all depends on what the older person would like.
